As a veteran and a military wife for 18 years, this book really resonated with me.

This is the story of Vince and Emma.

Emma, like me, was a veteran and a military wife.  Unfortunately, her marriage was not a good one.  Her first marriage was a very real downside of many military marriages.  It has left her with some understandably huge trust issues and her mantra of never dating a military man again.

Vince is the middle brother of the DeMarchis family.  He is a career Marine.  His job working with explosives, and losing members of his team has made him not want any type of long term, meaningful relationships.

Emma and Vince have an explosively steamy one night stand, and Emma runs after the fact.  Fast forward six months later and they are both in each other’s orbit again.  The attraction flies and the more they spend time together, the more their relationship grows beyond the physical.

I could empathize with both Emma and Vince.  Ms. Carlise is able to accurately tell a believable story.  Feelings are relatable and real and that’s coming from someone who has experiences like both of her characters!

Can’t wait to read Matty’s story next!

From pocket eggs to smartwatches, you get all the quirkiness, smarts, heart and heat from this new story from Ms. Canterbary.

This is the story of Ash and Zelda.  If you are a fangirl like I am, you know Ash from other stories in Ms. Canterbary’s world.

Ash is the straightlaced triplet, always feeling the need for control.  His tyrannical tendencies are thrown to the wayside when he meets the whirlwind that is Zelda.

Zelda is finding herself, after a devastating past and an abusive ex, she runs away to spread her wings and put the pieces of her mismatched parachute away.

As always with Ms. Canterbary, you get whip-smart dialogue that doesn’t talk down to the reader.  She creates a world and characters that you want so badly to be real.  Her stories teach me something every time I read them.  From archeology to accounting, and from embracing the messiness that is life and to the realness of loving someone for who they truly are and not trying to fit yourself or someone else into a shape that you think you should be. That’s what this story is all about.  I couldn’t put it down until the end and then I wanted to pick it back up and read it again!

The Pawn Duet…

While waiting on pins and needles for this finale to another phenomenal duet by Ms. Frazier, I can totally understand her reasons for holding off until now.

While the subject matter is such a fiery topic, this story is more about the love between Pike and Mickey.  The love that overcomes everything.

I empathized with Mickey’s mental instability.  I applauded her bravery and her constant in Pike.

Pike was absolutely amazing in his possessive need for Mickey, in all her forms and vulnerabilities.  In her strengths and weaknesses, he is there for her always.

With Logan’s Beach as the backdrop of this story, the reader is brought again to the gritty world that Ms. Fraizer has created and continues to amaze us with. There are twists and turns and a hella big surprise that you won’t see coming!

Get your hands on this duet! You will not be sorry!
