I just finished reading Darker (actually finished it the day it released….not gonna lie). Needed a couple of days to recover and settle into writing this. When I first read FSOG, it brought me into the contemporary romance world, before that I stuck with historical romance.
This is the re-telling of Fifty Shades Darker from Christian Grey’s POV. As much as I loved the book from Anastasia’s point of view, this book retelling by Christian really stuck with me. The inner dialogue that he has with himself is so raw and gritty. I loved it. The inner turmoil he has with being good enough for Anastasia and the fear he has of telling her about his demons and what he feels drive him. His interaction with Mrs. Robinson, I wished he had pushed her away sooner and harder, but if you read Fifty Shades Darker, you essentially know what happens. With this second book, we see Christian opening up more to Anastasia and he struggles with his feelings of abandonment and being deserving of love and loving in return. Not gonna lie here, I liked these retellings from Christian’s point of view better than I liked the originals. I cannot wait to see what Ms. James has in store with the final retelling of the final book in the FSOG trilogy.

I know I am a little late to the game reading this, my TBR list is a mile long, I swear…last count was over 400 books that I want to read in my spare time! HA! When I read A Thousand Letters by Staci Hart I knew I wanted to know more about Charlie. I was so looking forward to reading Charlie’s story, and I was not disappointed! This story of Charlie and Hannah was gripping, it really grabbed me from the get go. The sweet, simplicity of Hanna, her inner strength was stellar. Charlie’s broken soul was moving and the way he becomes whole again, with Hannah’s help, was perfect, messy perfection! Thank you for your words Staci! Check out all her works – I have loved every one I have read – on her website – Staci Hart
I was graciously given an ARC for an honest review and honest I shall be!
This book grabs you by the throat and makes you really, really slow down and read the pages. I loved how you get thrown right into the action from the first chapter, no slow build up, no hearts and flowers (although there is that too!) and no backstory, which was terrific! Sometimes when I am reading, I get dragged down by backstory and I end up skimming pages to get to the good stuff: the action, the romance! You will not do that with this book! I went back and re-read pages to make sure I didn’t miss anything, and to me, that makes a book phenomenal! The angst between Kat and Evan is beautiful, sad and makes you want to reach into the pages, hug them and cheer them on! I reveled in the fierce nature of Kat and the determination of Evan, they really spoke to me! This is a book to read and savor!
