I have to admit, historical romance was my first love, but I have been woefully neglect on reading them. So imagine my shock and delight to see one of my favorite books rewritten as a historical romance!

This tale is a remake of Penny Reid’s Neanderthal Seeks Human and Ms. Hatcher does a fabulous job!

From beautiful ballrooms, mysterious masquerade balls, and front parlors of London, readers are introduced to a group of lovely ladies. Some are noble and some not, but they are true friends better than family.

Lady Jane is the subject of this story. She is smart, awkward, and bucks against society norms for ladies. She is independent and does what she can to make a life for herself.

Oh the mysterious Q, who is he? What does he want from Lady Jane? Their chemistry is beautiful and romantic and oh the letters! I missed the hallmarks of a great historical romance and Ms. Hatcher brings everything to this story.

This story is lush, this story is swoony and this story has all the things I love and miss about historical romances!

Being a scientist means being willing to admit when you’re wrong and reevaluating everything. I might not understand much about human behavior, but I can clearly see the tender underbelly that Tom protects. The subtle rituals he uses to stave off his anxiety. Yes, he’s ridiculously hot, but his soul just might be more beautiful than his face and I’m not sure what to do with that. 

Especially when I find out that he’s in love with me.

This is the best kind of book to read! Fast-paced, swoons aplenty, and humor, my kind of story!

This is the first book I have read from this author, but it certainly won’t be my last. 

This is the story of Tom and Gwen. Two people that are complete opposites but fit each other in a puzzle-perfect way.

Gwen is book smart, she is brilliant, and she is so adorkable. She also acknowledges the fact that when it comes to matters of the heart, she is clueless. She is always looking for a way to describe human nature in scientific terms and it doesn’t get her far.

Tom is the twin of Gwen’s best friend. He is the pop star, he is famous, but underneath that shiny facade beats the heart of a fella that has some debilitating issues and a love so big for Gwen, he doesn’t know how to explain it.

This book had me laughing out loud, the dialogue was witty and so relatable, even when Gwen was spouting off science facts about microbiology.

This is the first book I have read in this series, but now I am thinking I am going to dive back into the Smartypants world and find the previous books!

Wowza! Ms. Fisher goes right for the proverbial jugular with this new story!

From the deserts of Nevada to the rainy land of Washington this story is going to take you places, some unspeakable.

This story centers around Summer/Rainy. A young girl that survives a horrific experience in essentially a cult and how she was able to become stronger, fiercer and a woman to admire.

I really did admire Rainy, she was how she was and made no apologies for it. Her internal dialogue was spot on and I could empathize with her in her adulthood. I admired how she didn’t kowtow to the group of women that was her new circle of friends. (I use that term very loosely, you will read what I mean.)

This story was fascinating right from the beginning and it was hard to put down. Each chapter was riveting and it kept me guessing until the end. 

I loved how you truly see what a smart, remarkable woman Rainy becomes throughout this story. It made me cry, it made me gasp and it made me feel angry for all the things that Rainey goes through. It drew some deep emotions from me.

Every story that I read from this talented writer leaves me begging for more! Get your hands on this!

What a welcome to Luview, Maine! A fictional town that is so well described, I could “see” the main street, the town square, and the mythical hot springs. 

I was so excited to see this new series from Julia Kent and she does not disappoint!

This is the introduction of the town and its community, humans, and animals in the fantastically funny style that I so love.

This is the story of Kellan and Rachel. They have a history and because of misunderstandings and youthful pride, they drifted apart. Kellan back home to Luview and Rachel back to L.A.

Time passes and fate (or is it chocolate) brings them back together in one of the funniest scenes ever. Rachel is definitely out of her element and Kel is fighting feelings hard.

I really admired Rachel, her tenacity, her spunk, and reading how she fell in love with the town and its community. I admired how she stood her ground and fought for what is right, even at her own expense.

Kellan, you adorable, too proud for your own good, lumberjack. Pride and self-forgiveness are what is holding him back. I have to say I was so happy that he went back home to be with his family and his town.

I loved the slow burn of this story, it was swoony and perfect for Rachel and Kellan. 

The humor and the introduction to all the new characters was spot on and I cannot wait to see what comes next to the town of Luview and the people that live there! I so wish this was a real place that I could visit!

Oh how these fellas are falling! I am so enjoying this series!

I have yet to read a Penny Reid story that I haven’t fallen hard for. This newest story is no exception.

The main characters are fresh, funny, and had me riveted to the page. 

This is the story of Bryon and Winnie. 

Winnie is a giver, she is always going above and beyond to make sure everyone in her orbit are happy, sometimes to the detriment of her own happiness. She is adorkable and sweet, she fights hard to further the future of women and STEM.

Byron is an enigma. He is terse, blunt, and obscenely honest, which can make him seem arrogant and cruel. But there is a method to his madness and it was absolutely lovely to see how Winnie became the “Bryon Whisperer”.

I absolutely adored the slow burn of their relationship, the inner dialogue of both Winnie and Byron was fantastic. 

Even as a vintage gal, I was able to relate to these two and am guilty of looking up some of those challenges on TikTok. 

This standalone story is absolutely brilliant, I could feel these characters and respect the heck out of Ms. Reid for the research and study she did to make Winnie and Bryon as authentic as possible! 

This is going on my “Best Reads of 2022” list!

Oh the St. James family is at it again!

This is Burke and Chloe’s story…

Burke is a fixer, but he keeps his real self hidden behind the playboy facade. He is in a pinch and needs help. He is quite swoony and I loved his relationship with his siblings and family.  

Chloe, oh my! First off, love, love, love the name! (hee hee hee) I felt for her when she literally lost everything. I loved the fact that she was a terrible liar and she knew when to say when. She knew she had to protect her heart and she had to make amends to her family.

This slow burn, fast-paced story had me riveted. I was sad to see it end but I am hoping that clues that I feel were throughout the story means future stories for some of the secondary characters! I am not going to name, names but I think you will pick up on them too!

Way to go Ms. Burgoa! I can’t wait to see what comes next!

Wowza…Ms. Rae sure does know how to write a swoony hero!

This is the story of Mason and Presley. I fell hard for both of these characters and Archie was just the cherry on top.

Mason was disillusioned by the life he was leading, he grudgingly chose his career over his girl. Now he is back to make amends, do some soul searching and fight for his real dream.

Presley is a strong, strong woman. She is independent, fierce and is rocking the single mom life. The only thing missing is a piece of her heart. I was enamored with her relationship with her baby daddy, it was a true co-parenting experience and I absolutely loved him.

I loved how Mason was fighting from the start, there was no wishy-washy back and forth for him to declare his intentions. He was straightforward and the way that he wooed his way back into Presley’s good graces was smexy as hell and so, so swoony!

You are going to fall in love hard with these two, I also like seeing past characters make appearances. They just added that bit of “reunion” feel that I like to have in the books I read.

My Review...

This story by debut author is fantastic right out of the gate!

This is a sloooow burn of a story and it was perfectly done.

This is the story of Mel and Cameon. Co-workers and friends. 

Mel is a go-getter. She is focused but sometimes can’t see the forest through the trees. She loves her little group of friends and decides she needs her friends help in a new idea for a book. She needed wingfolks for her “mancounters”.

Cameron is such a delicious find! He is one of Mel’s best friends, but he wants to be so much more. But things in his past have left some inner scars that sways the way he interacts with Mel.

The flow of this story is perfect and the subtle ways that Cameron showed how much he cared for Mel was so swoony. 

Secondary characters were perfect in their own ways, I am actually hoping that some of them get their own stories soon.

Again I say what a fantastic debut story from this soon to be well known author. (That’s my prediction…)

What a fantastic new story by Ms. Hollyfield!

This is the story of Chase and Bridget.

First of all, Chase…this character is hilarious, swoony, and is good at eating crow. 

Bridget is a firecracker, she is really a gal that is coming into her own. 

Both have some scars from their past that have dictated their future, until the meet and oh my me how the sparks fly. Their chemistry is wowza hot and the smexy times are smokin!

I loved the bit of mystery, I loved the bit of suspense and action. It kept me turning the pages until the very end.

The secondary characters were funny and brought the extra to the story.

The only question I have is….what the hell is behind the locked door?!? I am hoping that mystery is answered in Ben’s story!
