Penny Blake loves her job with Enchanted Bridal. She gets to model wedding gowns and help brides plan for their big day. And yet…she’s wanting a little more. Her bosses all think it’s a great idea, but right now she’s needed in other ways – like helping out with the groomsmen.

Was there any greater form of torture than having to help your sister plan her wedding?

That’s what Spencer Buchanan is facing and although he goes into it with a bit of an attitude, running into the girl who got away – three times! – suddenly made this whole wedding planning thing a lot more bearable. Moving back home was never part of his plan, but once Spencer sees Penny again, all bets are off. And having her help him with his fittings on his tux turn into his favorite pastime ever!

Read an excerpt from GLAM SQUAD & GROOMSMEN

For a minute, he thought she was going to scream and the expression on her face said that she certainly hadn’t been expecting him. Actually, he hadn’t been expecting her either. His plan had been to come in for a tuxedo fitting – something he was seriously jumping the gun for Eva’s wedding – and figured it would be a legit excuse to see Penny. He’d casually stop in at the bridal shop and say hello and then…

“Spencer? What are you doing here?”

He gave her a lopsided grin. “Doing a test run on tuxedoes to help Eva and Brett out.”

At first he didn’t think she believed him, but then she visibly relaxed. “Oh. Okay.”

“So what are you doing in the tuxedo shop? I didn’t think you worked in here too.”

She quickly explained about the owner needing to get home to a sick child – again – and then she stepped away and began to explain to him about the tuxedo options that had been pulled for him.

If he didn’t know any better, he’d swear she was nervous and that pleased him a little. If she was nervous around him, that meant that she wasn’t unaffected by him – or by their kiss.

Good to know.

Because kissing Penny had been all he could think about all week. He should be back in Atlanta right now.

But he wasn’t.

He should be working on reports for the building he was designing.

But he wasn’t.

What he was doing was trying on tuxedoes when he didn’t need to just on the off-chance he could see her again. How twisted was that?

By now Penny was standing next to a dressing room and holding a tuxedo hanger in her hand. “Martin already placed a shirt and shoes in the fitting room for you,” she said, “and this is the first tux he pulled for you to consider based on your measurements.”

“I never gave him my measurements,” Spencer said.

“Um…what?”

He nodded. “All I did was call and ask if I could come in and try some on,” he explained. “No one asked for any sizes or measurements. I guess I can try this on and we can go from there, right?”

Then he watched as her shoulders sagged and she sighed. But she immediately went back into sales mode and gave him a nice but professional smile. “Okay, we’ll need to get your measurements first. No need for you to try to fit into a suit that isn’t your size. That’s just crazy.” She stepped away and hung up the suit she had in her hands. “Why don’t you step up on the platform over there by the mirror and I’ll go get the measuring tape.”

Wait…measuring tape? Couldn’t he just tell her what size he normally wore? That would certainly make things easier – especially since Brett hadn’t made any decisions on tuxedos and he wasn’t planning on ordering anything tonight. Then again, if he did happen to go in that direction, there’d be no need for him to stand up on the platform for measurements. And that would mean…

“Just step up on there and face the mirror,” she said. “I’ll need to make a note of your shirt and sleeve size, waist, outseam…”

Then he felt bad for giving her extra work. “Wouldn’t it be easier to give you at least some of my sizes so you don’t have to go through all of this?” he asked and hated that he was quite possibly depriving himself of some extra time with her.

“Under normal circumstances, yes,” she explained. “But for this sort of thing, we require specific measurements. Every designer is cut just a litter differently so it makes everyone’s job easier to just go by what the measuring tape says.”

“Ah…gotcha.” Doing his best to hide a grin, he simply stood and did as he was told as Penny’s hands roamed all over him – in a completely professional way – as she took the needed measurements.

Best. Friday. Night. Ever.

At first, he felt all kinds of wrong that even though there was nothing sexy about what she was doing, it was still mildly arousing – her hand skimming down his leg…her arms wrapped around him to get his waist measurements…

He cursed the fact that they were in the middle of a tuxedo shop and that he had on so many damn clothes!

Once she was done, she moved around the shop and pulled tuxes in his size and then sent him back to the dressing room to start trying them on.

They didn’t talk about much – she kept all of the conversation focused on Eva and Brett and their wedding and tuxedo style questions. Not that he cared. Basically, this was all going to be Brett’s decision and right now, Brett had no idea that Spencer was even looking at tuxes.

No one did.

If his sister caught wind of what he was doing, he knew he’d get her approval and possibly her help. And as much as he knew he was going to need some of that where Penny was concerned, he wanted to do it in his own time and in his own way.

He just never thought trying on tuxedos was a length he’d ever have to go through in order to spend time with a woman.

“Let me know how that first one fits,” Penny called out to him.

And as he closed the dressing room door, he figured he had at least an hour to try to break down some of her defenses and convince her to go out with him again.

My Review…

This is the first book I have read from this author and I am glad I did!

Glam Squad & Groomsmen is a quick, fast paced read that is part of the Enchanted Bridal Series, but can be read as a standalone.

This is the story of Penny and Spencer. They have know each other forever and been on and off in a relationship forever too.

Because of misunderstandings and hurtful words of youth, Penny and Spencer had drifted apart but fate brought them back together is a fun and cute way!

The characters are fantastic and the world that Samantha creates is fabulous, steamy and real.

I have added the other books in this series to my TBR list, I want to know everyone in the Enchanted Bridal world!

My Review…

Your roots are deep….

I love discovering new authors! And I have yet again with this lovely book by Stephie Walls!

Label Me Proud is the story of Masyn, Beau and Lee, childhood friends and so much more.

At first I didn’t understand how the title of the book played into the story, but once I got into the story, I so got it!  The misunderstanding and the pridefulness of each of the characters is a blessing and a curse.

Beau is lucky to have the friends he has in Masyn and Lee, to get out of the predicament he was in!

Masyn is the ultimate tomboy! And her two best friends Beau and Lee make the ultimate three musketeers.

Lee is such a man and also a gentleman!

Throughout the story I wanted to beat Masyn and Lee about the head and shoulders or shake them hard and say “What the hell!?!”  It made me want to keep reading to find out what happens!

I also like the fact that it was written from Lee’s POV, it’s fun to see the male perspective in a romance!

This was quite the enjoyable story and I can’t wait to read more from Stephie!  Well done!

KAYLA

My infatuation with Ezra Johnson started how all obsessions begin—with a simple
crush. Over the years I silently soaked up every shy smile and random act of
kindness, wrestling them away to a secret place in my heart meant for
unrequited love.

Because if it wasn’t for the fact that I tutor him once a week, I’m pretty sure
he wouldn’t even know I exist.

Then I find his sketchbook.

And it changes everything.EZRA

There are two certainties in my life: I’ve been in love with Kayla Reynolds
since I was fourteen, and I can’t have her.

I’ve spent years settling for a two-dimensional fantasy world, capturing her
beauty with a pencil and paper. She’s kind, smart, gorgeous…

And she belongs to someone else.

Or so I thought.

An interesting turn of events makes me realize things aren’t always how they
appear on the outside, and now I’ve got my chance to be the man she deserves.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been called a loser. The cripple. An
outcast.

But maybe—just maybe—this time the good guy won’t finish last.

PROLOGUE
Four Years
Ago
EZRA
In all my
fourteen years, she was the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen.
She was a
new student, and from the teacher’s brief announcement I learned she was
originally from Cleveland. When Mr. Marks asked her to stand in front of the
class and introduce herself, her hands anxiously twisted together as she
quietly let out the name I’d say in my head thousands of times over the next
several years.
Kayla Reynolds.
She was a
tiny thing in a gray T-shirt, skinny jeans, and Chucks. Skin the color of
coffee with a healthy dose of cream, light green eyes, full lips, and her hair
was red. Not fiery-red—a deep auburn that reminded me of my favorite kind of
sunset.
The color
of the wild ringlets seemed out of place with her caramel skin, and it was like
all her features had been put together with a bunch of mismatched pieces.
The unique
combination was stunning.
Gorgeous.
I couldn’t
stop staring.
Hushed
whispers filled the classroom. I wasn’t the only one studying the new girl.
Heyworth, Ohio wasn’t the most diverse town, and Kayla’s distinct
characteristics made her stand out like a candle in the dark.
Awkwardly
shifting from one foot to the other, she sent a pleading look to our teacher.
“You can
take a seat,” he told her, and she shuffled to the empty desk in the front row,
just diagonal from me.
Obviously
uncomfortable, she quickly glanced around before looking down at her clasped
hands.
I felt bad
for her.
It was hard
enough coming to a new town, but freshman year started two weeks ago. Everyone
had already gotten time to get acquainted and, truth be told, most of us had
been in the same grade since kindergarten.
And now
here she was, unfamiliar and different.
Painfully
pretty.
The kind of
pretty that made hearts hurt with longing or jealousy. Longing for those who
wanted to be with her, and jealousy
for the ones who wanted to be her.
Both could bring out a darkness we all had somewhere deep inside.
I was in
the former category but instead of letting it bring me down, I felt my heart
lift a little. Usually school was hell for me, but the thought of seeing her
every day made it a little more bearable.
The buzz
around us continued as our peers blatantly discussed the most interesting thing
to happen in our grade for a long time. I didn’t hear all of what they said,
but caught the words “Carrot Top” and “Chia Pet.”
Why did
people have to be such dicks? I should’ve known it wouldn’t take long for them
to pounce.
Suddenly, I
wanted to tell everyone to stop gawking and mind their own fucking business.
Anne’s
blond hair almost smacked me in the face as she whipped her head toward the new
girl.
“So, what
are you?” Leaning to the right, she giggled as she pulled at a strand of
Kayla’s hair. “Like, are you Hispanic or something?”
I narrowed
my eyes at the rude girl in front of me.
“Um, I
don’t know,” Kayla responded, squirming away from the hand petting her head. “I
was adopted.”
“I heard
she has two dads,” Abby, Anne’s best friend, whispered loudly from somewhere
behind me. “Gay dads.”
Snickering
broke out among the class. Kayla’s delicate hands balled into fists until her
knuckles turned white.
Fury
ignited in my chest.
I’d never
stood up for anyone before, not even myself. I wasn’t witty in the heat of the
moment. I always thought of the best comebacks hours after it would’ve been
useful. I didn’t know the first thing about defending someone.
But I
couldn’t do nothing.
Just as I
started to stand—with zero plan in place—a heavy hand landed on my left thigh
and my leg buckled. I dropped back in my seat with a grunt as pain shot through
my knee.
“What do
you think you’re doing, Slug?” AJ sneered.
I bristled
at the awful nickname. Not slug as in slugger,
a baseball champ. Slug like the fat, slimy, slow-moving lumps that came out
after too much rain.
“Uh—um—”
“Uh—uh—uh,”
he mocked with a laugh. Then his tone turned deceptively kind as his hand left
my throbbing leg. “Hey, you know what you should do?”
Instead of
a response, I gave him a skeptical glare.
There was
one word for AJ Nelson: bully. Okay, there were a lot of words for him, but
none of them were nice.
“Blush,” he
barked out the command, and my cheeks flared against my own will. I knew if I
looked in the mirror, I’d see a bright red flush all over my face.
The worst
part about being made fun of wasn’t the hit to my self-esteem. It wasn’t
feeling unloved or unpopular. It wasn’t even knowing so many of my peers stood
by and watched it happen, silent and unwilling to intervene.
It was the
humiliation of being put in my place. The degradation of being constantly
reminded that my body betrayed me. That I wasn’t in control; they were. And
people like AJ took every opportunity to let me know it.
Embarrassed,
I dipped my head so no one would see, but it was too late. The new girl had
rotated in her seat, looking over her shoulder at me with so much empathy, it
only made the heat in my face worse.
She offered
a timid, yet brave smile. “Hey, what’s your name?”
“You can
call him Slug,” AJ supplied, and she gave him a fierce scowl.
Before I
could form a response, a booming voice came from the back of the classroom.
“Yo, Kayla.
Come sit next to me.”
I turned to
see Gavin, the star linebacker for our football team. Dude was a beast.
Freshmen never got put on the varsity team, but the coach had made an exception
for the 6’4”, 210-pound giant. He was a nice guy, though. Soft-spoken and
polite. He mostly kept to himself, so it was unusual for him to make such an
outburst.
Mr. Marks
cleared his throat. “That’s not Kayla’s assigned seat, Gavin.”
He gave the
teacher a hard stare. “It is now.”
Kayla’s
wide eyes bounced back and forth between the two until Mr. Marks waved his hand
in permission.
After
gathering her books, she trudged to the back row. Gavin gave a gentlemanly bow
before pulling out her seat. The frown on her face was replaced with a grin,
and a bolt of jealousy shot through me because I couldn’t be the one to protect
her.
Even if AJ
hadn’t been in my way, I would’ve fumbled over my words. I wasn’t intimidating.
I wasn’t commanding.
I was Ezra
Johnson, the cripple.
And that
was why a girl like Kayla Reynolds would never be interested in a guy like me.
Her gaze
briefly met mine before Gavin snagged her attention away. Tipping his head
toward her, he whispered something I couldn’t hear, and she giggled.
“Guess we
know who’s getting some from the new girl,” AJ remarked crudely, earning a few
laughs.
And there
was nothing I could do about it. If I told him to shut up, he’d just remind me
how powerless I was.
My chest
burned with anger as I opened my brand-new sketchbook to the first page and
started to draw.
As Mr.
Marks droned on about American history, my pencil moved over the paper. I
didn’t need to look at my subject to get the details right; the image of her
was etched into my mind.
Her
heart-shaped face. The slight upturn of her nose. Plump lips. Corkscrew curls.
After I was
satisfied with the rough outline of her beautiful features, I wrote the first
of many letters she’d never see.
Dear Kayla,
Today is the best and worst day of my life. The
best, because I found out love at first sight really does exist. The worst,
because I had to watch someone else be your hero.

My Review…

This was a great introduction for me of Jamie’s work!

Outcast is the story of Ezra & Kayla, outcasts themselves, adopting different ways to overcome.

I enjoyed the story so much! From Kayla’s adopted family to her best friend Gavin.

Ezra was absolutely amazing, his inner strength was so encouraging, even when he was at his lowest, he showed kindness.  And his love for Kayla? Absolutely amazing. “You’re my favorite….” One of the swooniest lines ever!!

From the drama that is high school to even more drama in college, Ezra and Kalya overcome adversity and their love for each other is outstanding!

I am so glad to have been able to read this book! It was fast paced and couldn’t put it down read!  I will be adding her other stories to my TBR list! Well done Jamie, well done! You have a new fan!

My Review…

“You gave her back her bold.”

I love a story that does that!  This is my first book by A.M. Johnson and will not be my last!  This book was fantastic and I can’t wait to read more from this author!

This story is about Mark and Stevie (Love the name, and who she is named after!)  The first thing that I really enjoyed was Stevie was older than Mark and it didn’t make a difference! I wish we could do away with the old fashioned notion that the man needs to be older than the woman….

Stevie was being held prisoner of a marriage that wasn’t right.  I liked how A.M. explained the reason why she married and why so young, it made me understand and relate to the reasoning better.  I loved the innocent connection Mark and Stevie had the first time they met and held onto even after time had passed until they saw each other again.

Mark! Hockey player, alpha male, old soul and romantical! What more could you ask for in a hero?  He was a total gentleman wrapped in tattooed hotness!  Even when his trust was shattered, he knew when he first met Stevie, she was different.

With just the right amount of angst thrown in, I couldn’t put this story down!  This is a fantastic, fast read! I loved the secondary characters and hope to see more about their stories in the future!!

WHDK cover FINAL_1

On the northeast side of town, there is a house.

The house was once magical, filled with love and joy and plans for the future.

Inside its walls are many things that belong to me — my books, the china from my mother on my wedding day, the beautiful cage once home to two birds, now empty, just like me.

And a man.

A man who also belongs to me.

A man I no longer wish to keep.

A man who, no doubt, has not slept, though the sun is rising. Because the house where he waits is where I laid my head to rest every night for eight years. Until last night.

No one who knows me would believe Charlie Pierce, the quiet, bookish girl who never made waves is pulling out of the driveway of a man who isn’t her husband.

But they don’t know me at all.

I don’t even know me.

Not anymore.

They say there are two sides to every story, and I suppose in most cases, that’s true. But the one I live inside of? It has three.

On the northeast side of town, there is a house.

But there is no longer a home.

My Review…

My first book by Kandi was A Love Letter to Whiskey it wrecked me and made me a fan!

What He Doesn’t Know is perfectly Kandi! So full of angst, so full of romance and love and so much of all the feels!

This story is about three people and more than 2 sides to a story, Reese, Charlie and Cameron.  I honestly don’t know who to root for!  You have childhood history and first love. You have a beautiful marriage that because of a horrible trauma has slowly fallen apart.  You want to hope for first love and then you want to cheer for the marriage!  What a rollercoaster of emotions I have felt through this!

I loved the different POV element to the story, it was intriguing to see how each character is feeling and how they handle the pressures that are put upon them.

Charlie’s delmina will rip you apart, and I am on pins and needles waiting to find out what will happen next! I can see a happily ever after with either choice Charlie makes.  Kandi writes one hell of a cliffhanger!

1.Hate-screw my high school nemesis.

2.Remember to hate him.

3.Prove my brother wrong.

It should be easy.

It isn’t.

As the owner of Pick-A-Dick, New Orleans’ premier hook-up website, my job is simple. Connect two people for a no-strings, no-expectations hook-up. The plus for my clients is that I’m the one who gets to sift through the dick pics—except this time, they’re required.

My problem? My brother, co-owner of Pick-A-Dick’s sister dating site, doesn’t believe it’s possible to hook up with someone three times and not fall in love.

I disagree. I know it’s possible.

And my disagreement is exactly how I end up reconnected with my high school nemesis, Elliott Sloane. The guy who asked me to junior prom and then stood me up. Who egged my car when I rejected him, and convinced my senior homecoming date to ghost me.

It should be easy to hate-screw him. If only he was still that person, instead of a hot-as-hell single dad, working as a builder to make ends’ meet, fighting for custody of his daughter.

Not to mention packing in the pants department…

Three hook-ups.

One outcome.

Right?

“Is she okay with that juice?” Peyton watched her go.

I selected the Blu-ray from the cupboard and shot a smirk her way. “Sorry to break it to you, but you’re getting a juice box.”

“I can live with that.”

I turned away and hit the eject button on the player. “You didn’t have to say yes to her, you know.”

“Of course, I had to. Have you seen those eyes? How do you say no to her, ever?”

“I think of all the times she screams and swings her arms like a tiny terrorist, and it’s pretty easy.” I put the disk in and turned around.

Peyton had one eyebrow raised. “See, now, I’d think that’s reason to say no.”

“It depends on the day. Sometimes it results in her being put to bed to calm down, which means she ends up taking a rare afternoon nap, and I get some peace and quiet.”

“That’s a thing around her? She was talking to me for thirty minutes flat about what I did and didn’t like.”

“Only thirty minutes? Lucky you. She has about three hours of material of that.” I took a seat on the sofa, making sure to leave space between us for Bri. “Did she get started on hedgehogs yet?”

Peyton looked a little confused. “Hedgehogs?”

“YouTube is the devil.”

“That…was quite the jump in subject.”

I laughed as the main menu music hit on the TV. “I’m going to preface this by saying kids are weird.”

“Some get that from their parents.”

I blinked at her for a second. She wasn’t wrong if half these people who had a mini-career opening fucking toys on YouTube were parents.

“There are a bunch of stupid videos on YouTube, and apparently, watching people open toys is thrilling.”

Now, she looked really confused.

“And on one of those she watched, the person had a pet hedgehog who wasn’t having the nonsense of her opening a Hatchimal on camera, so it stole the egg.”

She blinked several times in quick succession. “I have no idea what you just said, and if I’m honest… Please don’t explain it.”

I laughed and hit play on the TV.

“Here’s your dooce-box,” Briony said, handing Peyton two. “And das mine. I can’t do the straws.”

“Oh. Right. Okay.” Peyton looked at the two juices that had been thrust at her.

Smiling, I took one from her. I pulled the straw off the back, out of the tiny plastic slip, and poked it through the foiled hole in the top. “There you go,” I said to Briony. “What do you want for dinner?”

She put the straw in her mouth and pursed her lips as she sucked the juice up. Peyton watched her, lips twitching, as she put her straw in place.

“Pizza!” Briony announced.

Oh no. I’d eaten too much pizza lately.

Was there such a thing as too much pizza?

Maybe if the toppings were changed up…

“Peydon, do you want pizza?” Bri asked, leaning right into her.

“I like pizza,” she replied, smiling sweetly down at her. “What’s your favorite?”

“I like spots and cheese.”

“Spots?”

I coughed on my water. “Pepperoni,” I explained. “They look like spots on the pizza.”

Peyton’s eyes met mine for a minute. Silent laughter shone back at me. That really was toddler logic at its finest.

“You know,” she said, looking down at Peyton. “Spots are my favorite, too!”

Once again, Briony gasped. “Reawy?”

“Really, really. I love spots.”

Oh, Jesus.

It might have been a mistake introducing these two. Not only was my daughter becoming increasingly obsessed with someone who seemed to be a brunette, adult version of her…

No, that was the problem. Peyton was the brunette, adult version of Briony, attitude and all—and if there was anything my daughter didn’t need, it was someone who could teach her a thing or ten about sarcasm.

“I’ll order pizza,” I said, going to stand.

“Oh, you got it last time. I’ll go call them.” Peyton put her juice on the side table and tried to move, but Briony stopped her.

“No. Mimi told me that only gentlemen buy dinner. Princesses sit and look priddy.”

Peyton looked down at her. “Sit and look pretty? I like to buy my own pizza sometimes, and that’s okay.”

Without missing a beat, Briony said, “Princesses sit and look priddy so the mens buying dinner don’t know dat we can kick dere butts.”

My Review…

This the first book I have read by Emma Hart, but it certainly will not be my last!

This story of Peyton and Elliot is what a true romantic comedy should be! I mean, I was laughing out loud at the dialogue in this book and I absolutely loved it!

I absolutely loved Peyton! She is what I want to be when I grow up! And her job?!? Absolutely hysterical!

Elliot is the perfect hero and a single daddy to boot? Ovary overload! What I also really liked about this quick read is that Elliot and Peyton didn’t shy away from their feelings for each other, they didn’t keep them hidden. They were honest and upfront about them. Their steamy moments were swoony and made me blush! (Which is a compliment, because it’s hard for me to do that anymore!)

The secondary characters were stellar and the interaction between everyone was fantastic and so, so funny!Emma Hart has acquired a new fan/stalker with this book and I am currently adding all her other works to my TBR list! I cannot wait for Chloe and Dom’s story next! (I mean with a name like Chloe, she is gonna be AWESOME!)

CMD cover

Holden sees things.
Lots of things.
Things we would call ugly, but he believes are beautiful.

He paints sad pictures.
And strums lonely guitars.
He drowns out the taunting voices while shunning the expected norms.

I let them hurt him.
I wasn’t strong enough to speak out.
I hurt him, too, only to prove I wasn’t just like him.

But then I saw him.
I heard him.
I learned why Holden wasn’t CRAZY like they said.

I loved him MADLY.
I fell for him DEEPLY.
And alone, I decided to save a man who was the most beautiful of us all.

My Review!

“He would always be striking and large”

If I could give a review more than 5 stars, I would give this story an infinity amount of stars, like the ones that Holden would look at from the deserted football field.  I am so glad that I have been introduced to Lily White’s work.  She is amazing!

This book, oh I can’t even begin to explain the beauty and tragedy in this story. The story of Holden and Michaela is absolute brilliance.

I was so envious of Holden’s strength in being himself and making no apologies for it.  His love and dedication to his sister Delilah is nothing short of miraculous. The tragedy of the things that were piled on him was heartbreaking.

I could understand Michaela’s “smallness” (when you read this book, and I hope you do, you will understand what I mean). I was angry for the silence she perpetuated, but I understood how she felt.  I was so happy that she found her strength in Holden and I am glad he found a safe place with her.

This twist in this story absolutely floored me! It gutted me and made me ugly cry, which really is a credit to Lily’s words and story.

This book is going to be in my best reads of 2018, this book hooked me from the first page and I refused to put it down until the end.  I cannot praise this story enough, nor can I exclaim that you get this book and become as mesmerized by this story as I did.  Well done Lily, I cannot wait to read what comes next!

I absolutely loved this book! See my review here!!

Only You, an all-new sexy and emotional standalone from USA Today bestselling author Melanie Harlow is LIVE!

MHOnlyYouBookCover5x8_BW_300.jpg

Nate Pearson is ridiculously handsome and wears the hell out of a suit and tie, but I’ve seen the parade of beautiful women leaving his apartment across the hall-a different one every time-and I want no part of it. When it comes to romance, I’m looking for something real, something that will last: the happily ever after.

As a divorce attorney, he loves to tell me there’s no such thing.

As a wedding planner, I choose to disagree.

We disagree on almost everything, in fact. Everything except James Bond. The only time we really get along is when we’re watching 007 flicks together, and I’ll admit-he has rescued me from a disaster or five. So when one of the baton twirlers from his parade leaves a baby girl at his door with a note that says “I’ll come back for her” and he begs me for help, I can’t turn him down.

But it’s a mistake.

Because watching him with his daughter, I start to see another side of Nate, a side that has my breath coming faster, my body craving his, my heart longing for him to change his mind about love and tell me there’s a chance for us.

I don’t want to be just another girl leaving his apartment in the morning.

I want to be the one he asks to stay.

Excerpt

“So did you mean what you said last night? About me?”

He grimaced, his eyes closing briefly. “I’m sorry about that. I shouldn’t have said it.”

“But you think it, right? That I’m a little girl living in a fantasy world?”

“No.” He put a hand on my shoulder. “I think you’re an optimist. I think you see good in people they don’t even see themselves. You build people up—especially me.”

“You?” I laughed a little. “You don’t need me to build you up.”

“Hell yes, I do. You think I’d have been able to handle this whole fatherhood bombshell if you hadn’t been here? If you’d said, ‘That’s what you get for fucking around, asshole. Good luck.’

I shook my head, a strand of hair coming loose from my bun. “I’d never have done that.”

“I know.” He tucked the strand behind my ear and moved his hand to the back of my neck. His eyes dropped to my lips. “But I would have deserved it.”

I held my breath. Things seemed to be happening in slow motion. His forehead came to rest on mine. And then our noses touched. Our eyes closed. An eternity passed, his lips a whisper from mine. Either one of us could have initiated a kiss. A slight lift of my chin. A little drop of his head. The question—will we or won’t we?—hung there between us, even as his closed lips brushed mine, eyelash soft.

I wanted nothing more than to wrap my arms around his neck and fit my body flush against his, but my wrists lay inert on the edge of the sink. Suddenly he spoke, his breath warm against my mouth.

“You know that dream you have, the one where you really want to do something, you’re desperate to do something, but you’re paralyzed?”

“Yes,” I whispered.

“I think I’m having that dream right now.”

“Me too.” And then I felt it, the gentle pressure at the back of my neck, pulling my head toward him.

It was all I needed. Our mouths came together firmly this time, our lips opening, and I angled my body toward his, throwing my arms around his neck. His hands explored my back while his tongue explored my mouth, and he backed me into the corner, his hips pinning mine against the hard stone counter. He kissed with a fervor and intensity that surprised me, his mouth traveling down my neck, his fingers threading through my hair, pulling the pins loose, his body giving off heat that mine hungrily absorbed. I wanted to get closer to him, wished I could feel his skin against mine. I rose up on tiptoe to press against him, my back arching to fit the question mark curve of his body.

He felt big and strong and reassuring, exactly how I wanted him to feel. I wasn’t even sure what it was I wanted reassurance about… My desirability? Our chemistry? Something new and different happening between us? He swept his lips to the other side of my throat, a necklace of soft, insistent kisses that warmed my blood. When his mouth returned to mine, the kiss grew hot and frantic. He reached down and hiked the hem of my skirt to my waist, and I immediately jumped up, wrapping my legs around him. His hands moved under my ass and he carried me like that into the living room, never lifting his mouth off mine. When he reached the couch, he knelt on it and tipped me backward, stripping off his shirt and stretching out above me.

My hands moved lightning fast over hot skin, solid muscle. Chest and arms and back—I couldn’t get enough. His hand stole beneath the T-shirt I wore and I arched my back so he could reach underneath me and unclasp my bra, then moaned softly at the feel of his palm over my breasts. Moving down, he shoved the shirt and bra up to my neck and put his mouth on me, his lips, his tongue, his teeth, my nipples hardening into tight little peaks that begged to be licked, sucked, teased, tortured.

What are we doing? What are we doing? What are we doing? screamed a voice in my head.

I ignored it, hooking my arms beneath his and pulling him up so I could kiss him again. I didn’t care what we were doing.

It felt way too good to stop.
