A Standalone Second Chance Romance Novel

By: #1 NY Times Best Selling Author, Vi Keeland

RELEASE DATE: Monday, July 23, 2018

Synopsis:

It was just a typical Monday.

Until the big boss asked me to make the pitch for a prospective new client.

After two years on shaky ground at work because of my screw up, an opportunity to impress the senior partners was just what I needed.

Or so I thought…

Until I walked into the conference room and collided with the man I was supposed to pitch.

My coffee spilled, my files tumbled to the ground, and I almost lost my balance.

And that was the good part of my day.

Because the gorgeous man crouched down and looking at me like he wanted to eat me alive, was none other than my ex, Gray Westbrook.

A man who I’d only just begun to move on from.

A man who my heart despised—yet my body obviously still had other ideas about.

A man who was as charismatic and confident as he was sexy.

Somehow, I managed to make it through my presentation ignoring his intense stare.

Although it was impossible to ignore all the dirty things he whispered into my ear right after I was done.

But there was no way I was giving him another chance, especially now that he was a client…was there?

Title: GENT

Genre: New Adult Romance

Release Date: May 30, 2018

Blurb

Raven Elliot blasts
into town like a wrecking ball—striking and devastating.

With a few simple words, my reliable routine crumbles to dust.

“Is this seat
taken?”

I could close my
eyes and let her voice wrap around me like a lover’s caress.
But this isn’t that kind of story.
And I’m sure as hell not that kind of man.

She hovers in my
space, batting her lashes and smiling shyly.
The glimmer in her sapphire eyes is a promise of peace.
But I’m not falling for it.
And Raven doesn’t take the hint.

What starts as a
battle of wills, explodes into a turf war.
She stands directly in my path everywhere I turn.
No matter how hard I shove, she won’t budge.
Raven seems dead set on driving me insane.
But I was here first.
And I’m not going down easy.

After all, no one
ever taught me how to treat a lady.

“Listen,
babe—”
She holds
up her hand like a stop sign and for some reason, having her interrupt doesn’t
bother me.
“Did you just
babe me?” Her question is all sass.
“Sure did,
sweetheart. Call ‘em like I see ‘em. Don’t pretend to be offended. We both know
why you’re over here talking to me.”
Her face
turns an adorable shade of pink. “First, stop with the nicknames. Second, are you
for real? What the hell is wrong with you?”
“I don’t
see any issue. You’re the one disrupting my quiet evening.”
“What the…
I mean, seriously? I want to sit down and this is the only available spot. You
honestly think I came over here to hit on you?”
Her
ridiculous question doesn’t deserve a response. My glare matches hers as I
silently explain my opinion on the matter. My expression must tell her
everything she needs to know.
“Wow,
you’re an asshole.”
“You’re the
third woman to call me that tonight. Be careful, I might get a complex.”
“Aw, poor
baby. I’d hate to dent your fragile ego,” she snips with a curl in her lip.
“There’s
nothing fragile about me. Don’t worry. I’m hard and solid. Wanna feel?” I ask
and pat my abs.
She nods to
my hands. “No, thanks. I’d hate for you to rub off on me.”
“Does the
grease under my nails bother you? Princess is afraid of getting a little
dirty?”
“Do you get
a rise out of being mean?”
I lean
against the bar and cross my arms. “I don’t get many complaints. You’re not
from around here, so I’ll fill you in—the ladies love me.”
“Pretty
sure I saw Barbie McCleveage storm off after chatting with you. She didn’t look
too satisfied.”
“Now who’s
using nicknames? Jealous much?”
“Hardly,”
she huffs.
I smirk
before checking out her rack, being extremely obvious about it. Pushing her
buttons takes away the tension from earlier, replacing it with a surprising
ease. Fighting with her is the most nonsexual fun I’ve had with a woman in a
long time. Wonder how she’d react if I called her ma’am.
“All right,
all right. You’ve broken me down. I was set on not having any company tonight,
but for you, I’ll make an exception. If you insist on standing here, blabbing
away, I’ve got far better uses for that luscious mouth. My place isn’t too far
away,” I suggest while waggling my brows. My behavior is over the top, but what
can I say? She’s bringing out the best in me.
Her lips
part in shock. This stranger just stares at me, and I’m sure she’s about to
turn away… or slap me. Either way, mission accomplished.
But this
chick is full of surprises.

My Review…

Every time I get a chance to read a book by Harloe Rae, I jump at it! She is definitely a “One Click” author for me!

Gent is the story of Raven and Trey, and at first Trey is nowhere near a Gent.

Raven is the perfect heroine, she is trying hard to start a new life and planting some roots in a new town. She is a baker, a cupcake aficionado and she comes up with a clever name for one of her spectacular creations.

Trey is a self proclaimed manwhore, with walls so thick and impenetrable that he is the town’s curmudgeon.  He likes it that way, or so he thinks. His flirting game is on point and he has the swagger and arrogance to know it.  He doesn’t go for the “fluffy” stuff, or so he says again and again.

Trey and Raven’s chemistry knows no bounds! When they decide to try a sorta friends with definite benefits, well those benefits were off the charts! The verbal game between them is blushingly good! Sexy, steamy and swoony!

And oh how Trey finally finds his “fluffy” feelings for Raven, oh how his words will make you swoon!  He is still him at his most basic but with him in touch with his feelings for Raven is just the sprinkles on top of a beautifully crafted cupcake!

The secondary characters are fantastic and I am hoping that Harloe deems us fans worthy of more stories from them, I am dying to know more!  Thank you for your words and your stories Harloe! I cannot wait to see what comes next!!

Sundays are for Hangovers

Publication Date: May 21, 2018
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romantic Comedy

Purchase: Amazon

For nearly a year, they’ve been at war.
Cops. Forks. Eggs.
Two feuding neighbors who couldn’t be more opposite, forced to live next door to one another.
Neither is backing down.

She drives him crazy with her loud nineties rap music.
He gets under her skin the way he obsesses over his stupid perfect lawn.

She fantasizes about having sex with the hot nerd—but with duct tape over his dumb mouth.
He has dirty dreams of the bombshell beauty where he bangs the crazy right out of her—nightmares of course.
Anger isn’t the only thing heating up between these two.

They think this is a battle only one of them can win…
The growing attraction between them, though, seems to be far more stubborn than the two of them combined.

Excerpt

March twentieth, at five fifty in the morning, I am walking down 42nd Street with a backpack strapped to my back and a duffel bag slung across my body. I’m no longer looking for where the sea and the sun meet. No longer looking for her to appear and save me from a place where I’m alone and afraid. A place she told me to wait for her because she was my person, and I was hers, no matter who else she had in her life.
She always made me feel special that way. Always. But now, a year after she took that step off the edge and left me where the water never really meets the sun, I know that she was never healthy enough to be someone’s everything. And I know I’m not going to grow and become my own person until I let go.
I can let go, finally, because she did.
I chose this time of day and mode of transportation out of the city that haunts me for a reason. Neither the sun rising or the view of the waters will pull me to look for something … or someone who isn’t there. Something or someone who will always be beautiful in the most confusing way. Something or someone who isn’t here and isn’t real anymore, who is holding me back from growing, and God how I wish to grow.
Stopping at the corner of Park Avenue and 42nd Street, I reach up and untie the pale blue ribbon from my hair. Then I close my eyes and rub it between my fingers, soothing myself, feeling the silky softness that I have felt since she gave it to me. She told me that this scrap of ribbon had once run around the edge of the blanket that a man, who she assured me I have met before; a man she said wasn’t strong enough to be what he truly was supposed to be—my father.
She insisted I always keep a part of him, symbolizing that I was the best part of him, the part he didn’t even know he held. To me, that part of him, that scrap of nothing, has been a hindrance to me and her.
I remember a day playing in the sand when, by chance, I looked out of the corner of my eye and saw it had somehow come untied and was flying in the breeze.
Panicked, I looked around as I jumped to chase it. Mom was talking to a man, smiling from ear to ear for him, engrossed in the attention he gave her, and he was smiling back at her the same way.
That day, I chased a blue ribbon, knowing it meant something to her and, in theory, meant something to me, as it wisped through the air. I panicked, thinking that, after she was done with her crash after that man had broken her smile, she would notice it was gone when I lay next to her, when she would rub the ribbon between her fingers like she always did, soothing herself with its silky softness, just like I did.
Looking up at it, I ran right into a boy who was running along the beach, holding a kite string.
We both jumped up, and then he ran toward the kite string as the wind blew it away like my ribbon.
“Oh shit.” The little boy with black hair laughed as he jumped high in the air, grabbing both the ribbon and the string in different hands at the same time. Then he fell onto his bottom in the sand.
When he looked at me, he smiled and reached out his hand, the one holding the string, not the ribbon. When I didn’t take it from him, he looked at me like I was odd, yet he was still smiling.
“Go ahead; it’s yours.”
When I still didn’t say anything, he looked away from me and at his hand.
“My bad,” he said, then stretched out his other hand. “This is yours.” His smile grew bigger, and then he shrugged. “You want the kite instead?”
I looked behind me to see where my mom was, to see if she was worried. She hadn’t even noticed I had run off.
For a brief moment, I wanted to say yes. I wanted the kite, and I wanted him to take the ribbon. But then he would have to carry the burden of responsibility, and that would make his smile fade. I was sure of it.
Before I could answer him, he pulled off one of the kite’s tail ribbons and stood.
I cupped my hand over my eyes as I looked up at him, shielding it from the sun’s blaring glare, wanting to know if he was still smiling.
He thrust his hand out, the one holding my ribbon and now a part of the kite’s tail. “Here. Now you can have both.”
I took it and looked at the thick orange ribbon, inspecting it. There was a round, orange cartoon character all over it. Then I looked up at the kite, seeing it had the same orange-looking cartoon character on it. I looked back at him to see he was smiling … still smiling.
“His name’s Otto.”
I couldn’t help smiling back at him. But then, I didn’t want to smile at him, because that meant he could take it away—the smile—and make me crash, make me sad.
“Looks like a Lou to me.”
He started to laugh, and it was so loud it startled me and made me jump.
He grabbed my hand. “You fall, you’ll end up with sand in your suit. Don’t fall.”
I nodded as I steadied myself. That was when I heard her call my name.
“I gotta go.” I tried to hand him back the ribbon, but he shook his head.
“It’s yours.”
I looked at my hand, at the blue ribbon, and pondered whether to give it to him or keep it when I heard my name again. I looked from the ribbon and back to the tall, smiling boy framed in the sun.
“You better go.” He nodded toward my mom.
I nodded. “Thank you.”
“Anytime.” He smirked. “Lou.”
~~~
Back in the now, I hold the ribbon up and look at it as the wind blows its end about. Then I close my eyes and think of that day as I release it and watch the wind whisk it away.
Like the kite, it blows higher and higher until it’s gone, and with it, the last of what has held me back. All the burdens, all the responsibilities I had put upon me, knowing they were more a weight than a means to grow.
Turning, I walk into Grand Central Station and take in her beauty as I walk toward the track that I pray will lead me to a place where smiles are in abundance and life will begin.
Sitting in the cushioned train seat, I close my eyes. The fear of the unknown takes ahold of me, but just a little.
When the woman beside me taps my hand, I open my eyes. She hands me a tissue, and I force a smile and thank her.
A total stranger showing me kindness.
While I wipe my eyes, she asks me what my name is as the train leaves the station, as I leave behind my past.
“My name is Keeka.”
And from that moment on, it would be.
Only Him, an all-new sexy and emotional second chance romance from USA Today bestselling author Melanie Harlow is coming June 4th!
Sometimes your first love deserves a second chance…
He was my first crush, my first kiss, my first everything.
But I’m not a lovesick teenager anymore, and I’d never let that cocky troublemaker break my heart again.
So when he shows up out of the blue asking me to have dinner with him “for old time’s sake,” I say I will. After all, it’s been twelve years, and I’m stronger and smarter than I was back then.
Except…he still does something to me. He’s got those eyes that make me weak, those hands that drive me wild, and a body I can’t resist—especially once I see the tattoos. It doesn’t take long for our trip down memory lane to go from sweet to sizzling.
We’re just as good together as we were back then—better, even—and I’m willing to give the only man I’ve ever loved another chance.
But he’s got to tell me the truth.
* * *
All I wanted was to see her again. Tell her I’m sorry. Make her smile.
Okay, that’s a lie. I wanted to do more than that—a lot more. But I know she’s better off without me, and I promised myself I’d behave.
Except I’ve never been much good at keeping promises…or my hands to myself when I’m around her.
I can make her laugh, I can make her cry, I can make her body surrender to mine in ways that neither of us could have imagined back then. I can—and I do—love her more than she’ll ever know.
But I can’t tell her the real reason why I’m here.
And I can’t stay.
SHE’S GOT CURB APPEAL. HE’S A FIXER UPPER… ?
Rian Sutter doesn’t usually get hit on in the grocery store, but when she notices a sexy man in a suit checking her out, she thinks maybe it’s her lucky day. Either that or the suit has a thing for sweaty, yoga-pant wearing women with excellent price matching skills.
Turns out it’s neither.
Pierce Whitfield can’t believe his luck when he’s able to track down the woman who scratched up the paint job on his car at the scene of the crime. But when he confronts the hit and run hottie, he discovers there’s not just one, but two of them, and he’s been throwing accusations at the wrong twin.
As repair costs are negotiated, and the chemistry between them flares, Rian and Pierce find out they have more than mutual attraction in common. They’re both vying for the same pieces of prime real estate in The Hamptons and neither one plans to give up without a fight.
Can these passionate rivals turn up the heat on their budding romance—without burning down the house?
My Review…
I was beyond lucky to have discovered Helena’s books a while ago and fell in love with her stories!
I was beyond excited to be able to read this newest book, I Flipping Love You.
This story of Rian and Preston has everything a true romantic comedy should have.  Laughs, love, swoons and smexiness! With just the right amount of angst thrown in to keep this story flowing and fresh!
Rian has been thrown under the bus by the people who should have stood by her, but she rises from the ashes to become better, stronger and just epically fabulous! She has some deep seated vulnerabilities, and rightly so, some misplaced guilt. When she meets Pierce, he gives her everything she didn’t know she needed.
Pierce! The master of trying to do the whole slow seduction play! Notice I say trying, but boy did those scenes make me swoon and blush!  When you are first introduced you are thinking he is the typical arrogant a-hole (as Rian puts it).   But he shows Rian so much more of him as the story goes on! And come on, how can you not fall in love with a man who loves to “cuddle you like a motherf..ker“!
Rian and Pierce’s chemistry is magical and they are just what the need for each other!  You get a chance to revisit some past characters, which is just lovely! Like a little reunion.
Helena is a must read author for me! She has yet to disappoint in anything she writes! Thank you for your words!
All Gave Some, Some Gave All…
I am a proud Army veteran and married to my combat Army veteran. Like most veterans, Memorial Day is a tough day for us. People tend to confuse Veterans Day, with Memorial Day. I am not gonna lie, my husband and I both cringe a bit when we get thanked on Memorial Day and here is why….
Veterans Day is a time to celebrate veterans, this is the time to “Thank a Vet”.
Memorial Day is a day to reflect on service men and women that have given the ultimate sacrifice to our country. This is not a day to thank a vet, this is a day to reflect on the above saying. This is a day to go to your local cemetery or national cemetery and take a minute to think of the families that were left behind. To think of what they sacrificed to give us the freedoms that we hold dearly.
Take time today, when you are with your families and enjoying the unofficial start of summer, to appreciate the land of the free, because of the brave.
Wait until November 11 to thank a veteran, to shake a hand, to visit a VA hospital or nursing home.
I will get off my soap box now…embrace your loved ones today. I hug my husband and kiddos a little tighter today….
About SUNDAYS ARE FOR HANGOVERS
For nearly a year, they’ve been at war.
Cops. Forks. Eggs.
Two feuding neighbors who couldn’t be more opposite, forced to live next door to one another.
Neither is backing down.
She drives him crazy with her loud nineties rap music.
He gets under her skin the way he obsesses over his stupid lawn.
She fantasizes about having sex with the sexy nerd—but with duct tape over his dumb mouth.
He has dirty dreams of the bombshell beauty where he bangs the crazy right out of her—nightmares of course.
Anger isn’t the only thing heating up between these two.
They think this is a battle only one of them can win…
The growing attraction between them, though, seems to be far more stubborn than the two of them combined.
I stewed all day at work over the kiss that almost led to so much more. She’s making me lose my mind. I even made an error on a calculation and damn near accused the head of the mortgage department of fraud. What an ass I felt like when I reran the numbers only to conclude I was, in fact, wrong.
I’m never wrong.
I yank off my T-shirt and wipe the sweat from my face as I run. My phone is playing some old-school Metallica. The loud, raging guitars not only make me want to pull out my own guitar and start plucking away on some songs, but it also helps pump me up into realizing this morning was a mistake.
Lilith is hot, no doubt.
But I can’t stand her.
How does one want to fuck someone they hate?
I’m just rounding the corner to my street when I nearly trip over my own feet and fall. Lilith, in a black bikini top and a pair of cut-off daisy duke shorts, is washing her cherry-red Mustang in her driveway. The sun is going down, but the sunlight seems to seek her out. Golden strands in her hair catch the light and glimmer. I trot to a stop just to stare.
Fuck, there goes my resolve.
Wet. Bangin’ body. Tits and curves and that ass.
I’m hopeless.
I catch the old man, Mr. Daniels, across the street swinging in his porch swing, a goofy grin on his gray-whiskered face. It makes me want to build a fence in front of her house so he can’t look at her. Being President of the HOA, I could probably even get away with it…
“Yo, Wonka,” she calls out as I near. “You’re looking hot.”
I puff out my bare chest and smirk because at least someone notices all the hard work—
All thoughts are dashed when cold water blasts me in the face.
“Better cool you off!” she yells as she sprays me down.
She shoots my glasses right off my face and I end up dropping my shirt. I don’t stop to pick my shit up but instead chase down the blur who is now running from me while trying to soak me at the same time. I hook an arm around her wet waist but end up stumbling over my own feet since I can’t see where the fuck I’m going. We land in her grass with a collective “oomph.” She’s face down and my dick is conveniently pressed against her ass.
“You live to antagonize me,” I grumble as I bury my nose in her hair and inhale her.
She wiggles and the only thing she’s successful at doing is making me impossibly harder. “You started it.”
“And I’ll finish it.”
I tug at the string on her neck and then the one at her mid back. With a quick pull, I relieve her of her bikini top.
“Oh no, you just didn’t!” she squeals, a loud, adorable laugh escaping from her.
It’s then as I rise to my feet with her top in my hand that I realize my crazy neighbor is getting under my skin. She’s burying herself deep inside of me so I can’t think or focus on anything else. And I’m not sure I want to anyway.
She stands with her palms covering her perfect tits. Her smile is wicked as she arches a brow at me and backs up toward her house. “It’s on, Wonka. It’s fucking on.”
I smirk at her cute, dirty mouth. “Technically it’s off, demon girl.” I sling her top over my shoulder and walk over to collect my glasses and shirt. “Just face it, you’re not winning anything.” I slide on my glasses so I can fully appreciate the swells of her tits barely contained by her tiny hands.
Her back hits the front door and she shrugs. “We’ll see.”
And then she flips me off before slipping inside her house.
But not before me and Mr. Daniels get a nice, quick peek of a perfect tit I’m convinced I won’t see the last of.
Game on, Lilith, game on.
