I had set the alarm for 7:30 am. I wanted to get a good start on outlining and possibly write some words that involved more than just planning sexytime scenes. I jumped in the shower, dried off my hair and put on some make-up before changing into a pair of comfy black trousers and a slouchy sweater. Perfect writing uniform. The fire had stopped burning during the night and it was colder than an igloo on the North Pole. I put more wood on the burner before I went to bed, unsure of what to do to keep the cottage warm for the morning. It hadn’t worked. I made a note to ask Drew how to stop chilblains from forming on my feet. It was a typical December day. Grey skies, a chilly wind. Freezing. I made myself a cup of tea and found myself humming, ‘It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas’ as I fired up the laptop and opened the curtains.Drew had told me the previous night that the view was amazing. ‘Holy mother of fudge,’ I said as I blew away the steam from my tea. It misted up my reading glasses and I smudged my finger over them like a windscreen wiper. I am so enjoying this series!
I love how the each book intertwines with the each other. This story can totally be read as a stand alone. However; you will get so much more out of it if you read Austin (the first book in the series).
This is the story of Bryce and Tessa. There is a bit of mystery when you first start this story, but when you find out what it is! You will love it.
Tessa was raised by a feminist mom, a strong feminist mom. That has somewhat warped Tessa’s view of men. Well that and her past has made her very timid and gun shy about men in general.
Bryce is a workaholic extraordinaire. He is fighting hard to keep his mother’s legacy from falling apart. Because of his extreme work ethic, he hasn’t been able to realize his own dreams and future hopes.
When these two meet, fireworks fly! Tessa is petrified of her feelings and Bryce is determined to make her see he is what she needs but never realized.
You see more of the awful family dynamic with the Sexton’s and more clues are revealed as to what is really going on with Bryce’s father and his new wife Missy. (Who is evil personified!)
I cannot wait to see the next book in this series! Hopefully questions will be answered and more happily ever afters will be found!

If you have been a long time “Canterbarian”, like myself, you will have a good basis to start this story of Cal and Stella!
What I really enjoyed about this story is the almost role reversal with Cal and Stella. Stella has “calendar boys” and she is not ashamed of it, she is honest about it and she doesn’t apologize about it. Nor should she in my humble opinion!
Cal is all the growly, bitey goodness you come to love in Kate’s stories. He is so adorkably awkward. He has been hopelessly falling for Stella on the sly, he wants the white picket fence, the happily ever after, all the swoony goodness! He is perfection wrapped in a beautiful package! (Stella says so!)
I also admire and enjoy the fact that Kate doesn’t dumb down the words to get the point across. She doesn’t pander to the masses. She writes smart, funny, smokin hot romances for the modern woman.
You also get peeks of past characters from other books, but not so much as to overshadow the main characters. I felt a bit nostalgic when reading, but in a great way.
You can never go wrong with reading Kate’s stories. This is a total stand alone and I am hoping for more about certain secondary characters. I am not going to name names, but you will figure it out when you read it!
