I pulled the door open, ready for the fun to begin. It was going to be a kickass summer.

“I told my parents no way was I missing out on our epic last summer, so here I am.” I stood with my arms wide open and a huge smile on my face.

The ping pong ball Ford had in his hand fell to the floor, bouncing a few times before rolling under the table. Everyone was frozen in place, not a smile or a hug from anyone. Are they seriously still pissed?

“Don’t all look so happy to see me.” I dropped my arms and strode closer to the party setup.

“Okay guys, I think you’re going to love these. We were going for a cotton candy flavor.” Mak came out from what must have been the kitchen and skidded to a halt. The smile on her face sank immediately when she saw me.

I bit back a curse. I knew she hated me, but we needed to get past it. My past with Avery shouldn’t tarnish what Declan had with Mak. I’d just put Avery out of my mind for the summer, no big deal. It wasn’t just Mak coming out of the kitchen, though, and whoever was behind her stopped short and let out a yelp.

“Jesus, Mak, you almost made me drop the tray.”

The hairs on the back of my neck stood up. I would have known that voice anywhere. Stepping out from behind Mak and fumbling with a tray of shots balanced on her hand was the last person I’d expected to see there. Okay, maybe not the last, but if the Pope had strolled out, I would have been less shocked. My gaze snapped to Avery’s.

“What the hell are you doing here?” we shouted at the same time, staring wide-eyed at one another. I’d only been gone for a few weeks and they were already inviting her along to take my spot?

“Oh shit.”

This is why I love blogging, finding new to me authors!

Now I am going to admit, NA/YA novels are not normally my go to for stories.  I am at an age of what I like to call “vintage”.  My late teens, early twenties was a loooong time ago.

Ruthless King took my by surprise!  This is a story I couldn’t put down.  The characters had a maturity to them that was refreshing, but they also had the naivety of youth.

This is the first story  I have read by Ms. Hughes and this is story is part of the Rittenhouse Kings series but I can’t tell you truthfully that this can be read as a stand alone.  Honestly! However, I will be going back to the beginning with this series and have already added them to my TBR list.

Ruthless King is the story of Emmett and Avery.  High school sweethearts and for Emmett it was so much more.  Social constructs and fate deal them a craptacular hand and because of misunderstandings and hidden truths broke them apart.

Avery has had to grow up too fast.  Too many responsibilities on her shoulders at such a young age.  She does what she has to do to take care of her family, even if it means sacrificing her happiness in the process.  I admired her strength in the face of adversity.

Emmett is the golden boy.  Or so everyone thinks.  He too is scarred by a childhood that was less than.  He finds what he needs with his friends and with Avery.  He holds on tight to them, almost too tight and when things explode, he is blindsided.

This story will take you by your heartstrings.  You are going to laugh, cry and cheer the characters on!  The secondary characters are fantastic and bring so much more depth to the story!

I am so glad to have been introduced to Maya’s stories!  I will be stalking her shortly! I can’t wait to catch up with her other books and can’t wait to see what comes out next!

“Are you sure you’re on my card?” I turned to the man with a polite yet distant smile. I was still disoriented from the exchange with Angelo when the stranger pulled me against his hard body and pressed a possessive hand lower than socially acceptable on my back, a second from groping my butt.

“Answer me,” I hissed.

“My bid on your card was the highest,” he replied dryly.

“The bids are undisclosed. You don’t know how much other people have paid,” I kept my lips pursed to keep myself from yelling.

“I know it’s nowhere near the realm of what this dance is worth.”

Un-freaking-believable.

We began to waltz around the room as other couples were not only spinning and mingling but also stealing envious glances at us. Naked, raw ogles that told me that whomever the blonde he’d come to the masquerade with was, she wasn’t his wife. And that I might have been all the rage in The Outfit, but the rude man was in high demand, too.

I was stiff and cold in his arms, but he didn’t seem to notice—or mind. He knew how to waltz better than most men, but he was technical, and lacked warmth and Angelo’s playfulness.

“Nemesis.” He took me by surprise, his rapacious gaze stripping me bare. “Distributing glee and dealing misery. Seems at odds with the submissive girl who entertained Bishop and his horsey wife at the table.”

I choked on my own saliva. Did he just call the governor’s wife horsey? And me submissive? I looked away, ignoring the addictive scent of his cologne, and the way his marble body felt against mine.

“Nemesis is my spirit animal. She was the one to lure Narcissus to a pool where he saw his own reflection and died of vanity. Pride is a terrible illness.” I flashed him a taunting smirk.

“Some of us could use catching it.” He bared his straight white teeth.

“Arrogance is a disease. Compassion is the cure. Most gods didn’t like Nemesis, but that’s because she had a backbone.”

“Do you?” He arched a dark eyebrow.

“Do I…?” I blinked, the courteous grin on my face crumpling. He was even ruder when we were alone.

“Have a backbone,” he provided. He stared at me so boldly and intimately, it felt like he breathed fire into my soul. I wanted to step out of his touch and jump into a pool full of ice.

“Of course, I do,” I responded, my spine stiffening. “What’s with the manners? Were you raised by wild coyotes?”

“Give me an example,” he said, ignoring my quip. I was beginning to draw away from him, but he jerked me back into his arms. The glitzy ballroom distorted into a backdrop, and even though I was starting to notice that the man behind the demi-mask was unusually beautiful, the ugliness of his behavior was the only thing that stood out.

I am a warrior and a lady…and a sane person who can deal with this horrid man.

“I really like Angelo Bandini.” I dropped my voice, slicing my gaze from his eyes and toward the table where Angelo’s family had been seated. My father was sitting a few seats away, staring at us coldly, surrounded by Made Men who chatted away.

“And see, in my family, we have a tradition dating back ten generations. Prior to her wedding, a Rossi bride is to open a wooden chest—carved and made by a witch who lived in my ancestors’ Italian village—and read three notes written to her by the last Rossi girl to marry. It’s kind of a good luck charm mixed with a talisman and a bit of fortunetelling. I stole the chest tonight and opened one of the notes, all so I could rush fate. It said that tonight I was going to be kissed by the love of my life, and well…” I drew my lower lip into my mouth and sucked it, peering under my eyelashes at Angelo’s empty seat. The man stared at me stoically, as though I was a foreign film he couldn’t understand. “I’m going to kiss him tonight.”

“That’s your backbone?”

“When I have an ambition, I go for it.”

A conceited frown crinkled his mask, as if to say I was a complete and utter moron. I looked him straight in the eye. My father taught me that the best way to deal with men like him was to confront, not run. Because, this man? He’d chase.

My Review…

Wow, just wow! This story is everything!

The Kiss Thief has a magical mix of angst, hate, smexiness and a love born from the ashes.

This is a twisted kind of love story, and twisted in the best way.  It shows how the different types of love can define and mold you.

Wolfe is a character you are going to love to hate, he is a complete product of his upbringing and his history.  Then, I promise, you are going to hate not to love him.  He is going to make you run the whole gamut of emotions before you finish this story.  He has got to be one of my favorite characters that Ms. Shen has ever written!

Francesca is such a misunderstood woman.  Which is such a detriment to everyone who knows her.  She is selfless, she is strong and she is worthy of the love that should be given to her. She has a bit of naivety that makes her all the more endearing.  But she is also strong in her beliefs and that can help or hurt her.

The battle between Wolfe and Francesca is beautiful, it’s heart wrenching and you will not be able to put it down!   Their relationship is not pretty, it’s messy and hurtful, but at its heart, it is beautiful and strong.

If you haven’t read Ms. Shen before, this story is a perfect introduction to her and the stories she writes!

My Review…

When I saw the movie Driven on Passionflix, the movie made from the book by this author, I knew I had to read her stories STAT…

Faking It is the story of Zane and Harlow, a chance meeting, dueling personalities, a hotbed of lies and a fake relationship makes for a great story!

Harlow is a feisty gal! I loved her grit and her bravery.  I like her refreshing honesty. She is a model that is both beautiful outside and inside. I admired how she didn’t kowtow to Zane’s brashness and his cavalier attitude.  She also has a vulnerability that I could relate to and I am sure most other gals can too.

Zane, oh Zane…such an alphahole wrapped in a handsome face and a killer accent. (I can totally hear it in my head when I read this story.) His past has molded him to the man that he is today and it takes a special woman like Harlow to show him how his view on love is skewed. His cautious attitude about love could be his downfall.

The chemistry between Zane and Harlow is crazy hot and their tease game is on fire!! This story of their love is a slow burn and you are going to want to jump in the flames!

The secondary characters are worth stories of their own and I hope that Ms. Bromberg will gift us readers of their stories too!

I have always had a passion for storytelling, whether it be through lyrics or bed time stories with my sisters growing up.

My Review…

The V Games Novel

Oh how I enjoy this twisted story!  The intrigue and the family brutality is crazy good!

Vas is the story of the newly found son of the Volkov family Vas and Darya.  You get the answer you are waiting for on who Darya really is and the role she unfortunately was forced into with the Vasiliev family.

I fell in love with Vas’s protective streak for Darya.  I enjoyed the alternating POV’s in this story.  You can feel the caged beast in Vas when it comes to Darya and you can feel the innocence that Darya still has even though she has been through some absolutely horrible things.  They both are creatures of the dark and night and they fit together beautifully.

This story, like the other stories in this series is brutal, it’s bloody and it’s such a mind screw, which makes it so good! It’s like witnessing a car wreck, you cannot look away, you have to keep reading.  This story is going to make you gasp and shake with anger and it’s going to keep you engaged until the very end! A true testament to the great writing duo that K. and Ker are.

I am hoping and praying that they are not completely finished with this series!  Their are so many characters that need their own stories too!  The ending of this one is going to leave you begging for more!!

Holy hotness!! Is there anything that Meghan can’t write with swooniness, heart and humor?!?  I think not!

This story is about Julia and Bram.

Julia is the wallflower, she has resigned herself to this.  But to Bram she is so much more.

Bram is the perfect compliment to Julia.  Where she is shy and introverted, he is brash and bold.

Julia is so analytical that she fails to see what’s right in front of her.  She couldn’t see the forest through the trees.  And that could be a big detriment to her.

Bram is amazing in his ability to push Julia but to do so gently so she could finally see him in the way that he wants and needs.

As always, Meghan writes secondary characters that are amazing and could take the story from the main characters.  Meghan makes you root for them just as much as the main characters!  I am so hoping for Rath and Roark to have their own stories!

Another stellar story by and amazing author! You know you are going to go on a magical ride when you crack open one for her books!  She makes you laugh, she makes you cry and she makes you swoon!  The perfect trifecta in a story!

The list goes on, but I don’t want to spoil it much more.  Nothing Personal by Karina Halle takes you on a fantastic journey to Hawaii.  Her words will inspire you like a beautiful sunset on North Shore.  Even though I have never visited those fabulous islands, her words have made that item move up my bucket list!

This story of Nova and Kessler is just terrific! They have history and are thrust together again after years apart.

Nova is strong, she is has her armor built around her so strong because of her scars she has from the past.  As her relationship with Kessler begins again, she begins to see what wearing all that armor has caused her to miss things in her life. I love how when it comes to the people she cares about she will do anything for them, even becoming an exterminator!

Kessler is a man’s man, or so he thinks.  He has been through some huge changes in the years that have separated him and Nova and he has learned more about the soft side of life and what he has missed by being such a player.

Nova and Kessler’s chemistry is on fuego! What they had in the past was just as hot, but now it’s so much more!

This is a fast paced read that was hard for me to put down until it was finished.  I have yet to read a Karina Halle book that I haven’t loved and I am adding this one to that list!

Ms. Halle has a way with words that bring you into her world, makes you feel like you are where she wants you to be until she is finished.

Hadley has something about her. Something beyond that daytime fantasy-inducing body and those cinematic eyes. The place is louder now, as people pass around the baby clothes and toys, conversation splitting off into a dozen smaller, more intense ones. I take the drink and move through the guests, smiling as a few of them call hellos, and eventually reach my target.

“Third time’s the charm?” I say, once I’m close.

She spins around and looks startled for a second. Her eyes going from mine, to the drink, and back to mine again before she tilts her head and casts that warm sunbeam of a smile at me.

“I appreciate it, but I’m not drinking tonight. Driving.”

I push the drink a little closer to her.

“I’m sure there’s a kind gentleman somewhere around here who’s willing to take you home.”

She laughs gently, then bites her lip in a gesture so sexy it could be its own porn category. A moment of hesitation, the indecision written all over her expressive face—but I know she’ll give in.

“You know what? I’ll take you up on that,” she says, side-eyeing me coquettishly as she takes the drink and sips. I savor it, the way she raises her chin, the slenderness of her neck. God, she’s incredible.

“Good?”

“Very good,” she says, her smile a little wider now, a little more subtextual.

Ryder Brothers #3

This is the story of the final Ryder brother Jonah.  I was so looking forward to this one!  J.D. Hawkins is a new to me author so I was doubly excited to get into this story.  I was not disappointed.

Hadley and Jonah have a hit it and quit it initial meet.  As the months pass they see each other a few more times.  The chemistry between these two is epic! Off the charts hot!

As time passes, the intrigue between these two develops.

Hadley is a life coach that blurs the lines between professional and personal.  I was impressed by her strength and her ingenuity at working with Jonah to get him to move on from his past.

Jonah is the quintessential player.  He shys away from commitment like it’s the plague.  He enjoys his unconventional working relationship with Hadley.  At least he thinks he does.

This story flows beautifully and the alternate POV’s was fantastic.  It’s my favorite type of story.  You get to read about past characters and it fun to read about what they are all up to.

I will definitely be looking for more stories from J.D. Hawkins to read and enjoy! This whole series is a fantastic read!
